Catnip here. It seems my human is very busy educating her species on how to care for their for legged companions. Sooo... I will be speaking about the one thing that ruffles my fur...FLEAS!! I cannot find the words to describe how much I loathe these pests. They have an insatiable appetite for my blood, the bite is painfully itchy, and they give me tapeworms when I accidentally swallow one while grooming my purrfectly smooth short hair. Not to mention they also annoy my human and her family.
Luckily my vet has topical medications that can zap those pesky parasites where they enjoy their buffets. Their are several topical flea products sold in grocery and discount stores as well as online. I must impress on all humans, PLEASE READ the box's labeling, directions for use, and the product's active ingredient. DO NOT USE if the product is labeled for dogs. DEFINITELY DO NOT USE if the ACTIVE INGREDIENT IS PYRETHRINE or it's synthetic cousin PERMETHRINE. We cats cannot tolerate this drug at all. Contact with or ingestion of this chemical can cause severe central nervous system problems we may or may not survive. Also, the topical flea products sold in the grocery/discount stores are older generations of flea products. Thus the pesky flea may have built up a resistance to the product and it may or may not work as well as the products sold through your veterinarian. If you want to save yourself a lot of anquish, frustration, and money, seek the advice of your veterinarian. He/she can determine which flea control is best for your furry companion.
Flea Fact: The most common flea found on dogs is Ctenocephalides felis or the cat flea.
